O2 XDA Mini S / HTC Magician & Variants

When dismantling any phone, great care should be taken to ensure that no damage is caused to any of the parts.  Rough handling may result in severe damage of many parts, and if proper anti-static procedures are not followed, electrostatic damage may result in any electronic component.

Before commencing, it is recommended that the correct tools are purchased for the job in hand - at the very least, you will require a Torx T5 screwdriver..

 

Step 1.  Remove the battery cover, battery and SIM card.

  

Step 2.  Insert a thin plastic shim and unlock the side clips of the aerial cover.
 

Step 3.  Release the internal retaining hook.
 

Step 4.  There are two remaining hooks at the top of the handset.  Use your thumbs to push the aerial cover as indicated below.
 

Step 5.  Take great care when releasing the hooks as they are very easily damaged.

Step 6.  With all the hooks released, remove the aerial cover.

Step 7.  Remove the four screws indicated below and keep them in a safe place.
 

Step 8.  Insert your shim into the gap at the top of the rear housing.

Step 9.  Now slide your shim down the handset releasing the retaining hooks as you go.

Step 10.  There are three retaining hooks on each side.

Step 11.  Take care not to force the hooks as they will break if roughly treated.

Step 12.  With the hooks released, remove the rear cover.

Step 13.  You should now be in the position shown below.

Step 14.  There are two parts remaining in the back housing - the flash unit and the vibrator.

Step 15.  Use your shim to release the clips holding the flash unit in place.

Step 16.  The vibra motor can be removed using tweezers.

Step 17.  With both units removed your rear cover should look as below.

Step 18.  Shiwn below are: 1. The camera unit.  2. Left speaker.  3. Right speaker.  4. Keyboard flex connector.

Step 19.  Use your shim to release and remove the camera.

Step 20.  Disconnect both speakers.

Step 21.  and remove them from the handset taking care not to touch or damage the delicate membranes.

Step 22.  Disconnect the keyboard flex.

Step 23.  Slide the keyboard tray out.

Step 24.  Lift the main board but DO NOT attempt to remove it completely.

Step 25.  The main board is still connected using a rigid flex cable.

Step 26.  Disconnect the flex cable.

Step 27.  Now you can remove the main board.

Step 28.  Make sure the sponges, gaskets and covers are still firmly in place on the main board.

Step 29.  Move the keyboard tray back.

Step 30.  Remove the four screws indicated below (two on each side).

Step 31.  Disassemble the slide tray taking care not to damage the flex.

Step 32.  Remove the eight screws indicated below.

Step 33.  Disassemble the keyboard.

Step 34.  Your keyboard unit should now look as below.

Step 35.  There is a metal board supporting the keyboard membrane.  If this is removed there is a very strong chance that the membrane will have to be replaced.

Step 36.  Remove the four screws indicated below.

Step 37.  Use your shim to unlock the hook shown below.

Step 38.  There are six hooks on each side and an additional two at the top and bottom.  Release one side first.

Step 39.  Now release the opposite side.

Step 40.  Separate the housing and the front bezel allowing the cable to pass through the gap.

Step 41.  Remove the protective tapes from the rigid flex board.

Step 42.  Remove the two screws at the top.

Step 43.  Also remove the two screws at the bottom.

Step 44.  Disconnect the LCM cable.

Step 45.  Disassemble the rigid flex board.

Step 46.  Remove the screen (LCM) from the front bezel taking great care.

Step 47.  Remove the earpiece.

Step 48.  Disassembly is now complete.
